Welcome to episode 71! Can we just talk about money for a minute? I mean, so many think it’s taboo. Yet, it’s a necessary thing!
Today my goal is to help you get acquainted with how you feel about money. How you really feel. Because it absolutely impacts what’s coming your way. Yes, in terms of money.
First, know there is a difference between your money mindset and wealth. And here at Crazy Big Dreams, we are focused on wealth. If you haven’t yet taken a listen to episode 4 “Why Wise Wealth Is The New Money Mindset” I recommend it.
It will help start the shift in mindset from money to wealth.
Today is dedicated to the topic of money! Because yes, there is still a currency that we use to exchange goods and services. Until there is a different means for how this part of the world goes ’round, we need to keep using money.
And because it’s a necessary thing, we absolutely have a mindset about money. Like, it’s taboo to talk about for one. Not here. Not today.
So, how do you feel about money? Really?
I find it fascinating the creator of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, is worth over some 600 million pounds. She is the first self-made billionaire author in history. She still worries about money!!
You guys. I mean…
We have this thing with money. We have thoughts. We have feelings. It’s vital that you get to know what yours are because you can absolutely influence these thoughts and feelings in a way that serves you.
So, do you have positive thoughts and feelings around money? Is it a big stressor for you?
Certainly, life circumstances can influence our thoughts and feelings about money. Divorce. Home repairs. Buying and selling real estate. Taxes. Being asked by friends and family to borrow money.
What about the experiences you’ve been afforded for you and or your family? Trips you’ve taken. The schools and sports and self-care you’ve invested in.
I mean, so much revolves around this whole money thing.
So, how do you feel about it? Do you notice what your thoughts are related to money as you go about your day-to-day life?
I have this personal values exercise I do with my clients. I had a client, when we started working together almost ten years ago, one of her 4 personal values was wealth. Back then, she was pretty concerned about money.
It was a big source of stress for her. She would call quick, last-minute meetings with her accountant to run numbers, in a bit of a state of anxiety, concerned she didn’t have enough if different scenarios played out.
She was being conscientious for sure. But she also had this, as she described, this anxiety that was unfounded. She was always completely fine, financially. After she would meet with her accountant she would tell me ‘I had nothing to worry about.’
I found it so interesting that when we revisited her top core personal values recently, that wealth was the one that fell off. And the only one. The other 3 remained the same.
Her views, her anxiety, and her mindset around money and wealth progressed over time. Because she was intentional about it. She really grew in this area and it was remarkable, and actually quite fun, to do the work with her and see her growth and development. Not only how her mindset grew, but also how her wealth grew.
It is no accident that these two have a direct correlation.
So how do you feel about wealth and money? Where are you at in this season of life with your thoughts on money? Has this changed for you over time?
The most important question I can leave you with is how do you want to think and feel about money?
I hope your takeaway today is that regardless of the amount, you have complete influence over your thoughts and mindset when it comes to money. I invite you to be intentional with it.
