Hello savvy leaders! This episode is about the top two reasons your next superstar leader is not meeting with you. She’s out there and she’s not engaging with you. Let’s dig into why that is and what you can do differently today to change that.
You possibly already have someone that comes to mind. Or maybe there are even a few people on your team that come to mind when you wonder why aren’t more people engaging with me?
First, I’m inviting you to expand the pool of people that fall into this group. Set aside their current performance, past performance, rank, level, and any goals they may or may not have shared with you.
It’s important to note as well, we aren’t talking about the people that ARE engaging with you. If you’re thinking ‘there are plenty of people engaging with me’. That’s great! You’re at a level you should have plenty of people actively engaging with you to further their success.
Think beyond those that are already engaged.
Your Next Direct Sales Leader
Let’s truly open your mind to the fact that this next superstar leader could be any individual on your team. To do that, we need to first focus on why she’s not meeting with you. Before we’re done we’ll cover how to effectively identify her.
Set aside who she is and why she may or may not be your next emerging leader to make big things happen. We’re going to assume she IS your next emerging leader. Have an inclusive mindset as we look at this.
This is important because once you address these two reasons, you can remove barriers to welcome any individual to be your next emerging leader. And that’s exciting!
She’s out there. You know she has all the potential, all the tools, every opportunity, and she has nothing to lose. Yet she’s not going after it. She’s not stepping up, raising her hand and calling you “I want to grow my business!” So why not?
Reason #1 Your Next Direct Sales Leader is Not Meeting With You
The first reason is because she thinks you’re too busy. She thinks you’re too busy for her. And you’re thinking “What? That’s silly. This is what I do.”
And yet you’ve heard it so many times.
“I know you’re so busy, but I just have a quick question.”
“It’s ok, I’ll figure it out, I know you’re busy.”
“I was going to ask, but I know you’re already so busy.”
Let’s be real. You are busy. Everyone is busy. When asked “How are you?” and the reply is “I’m so busy.” We’re communicating “I don’t have time for you or this conversation right now.”
Can we all just flip our response from busy to blessed or abundant? The next time someone asks you “How are you?” try on for size responding with “I have a blessed life.” Or “I have an abundant schedule.”
It’s much more inviting. Because you’re not too busy for your next superstar. You want to work with women who are ready to go after their crazy big dreams and go out and make them happen.
People believe we’re too busy because that’s what we say.
The fixable reason she believes you’re too busy for her is because she doesn’t have a consistent way to access you that is open, inviting, reliable and qualified. I’ll just repeat that.
She believes you’re too busy for her because she doesn’t have a consistent way to access you that is open, inviting, reliable and qualified.
How do you fix this? I’ve got 3 tips you can implement now.
The 3 Ways to Engage Your Direct Sales Leaders
- Start with a fresh new invitation. Pick up the phone and call her. Don’t message. Don’t text. Don’t Voxer. Make the call. It will communicate you really want to talk with her. You’re making yourself available. She’s important. You have the time & desire.Don’t think about how much time has passed since your last conversation, especially if it’s been a while, or a long while.
- Use a scheduler. Consistently. There’s plenty of options out there from Calendly to Time Trade which is what I use. Communicate that this is for ease and simplicity to find a convenient time because she may see it as cold, impersonal or a barrier.
Let go of the fact you may have used a scheduling tool in the past. You got away from it. You weren’t consistent with it. Let all that go. Start fresh. A scheduler is a must to have people access you and to have healthy boundaries on the time freedom you’ve worked so hard for.
If you have been using a scheduler, great! She simply needs an invitation. One that sparks her curiosity, one that communicates this time is for her, yes her! Remember, she believes you’re too busy.
3. Qualify the length of your time together, the time zone, and a friendly and inviting topic such as “Let’s Reconnect” or “Your Crazy Big Dreams”. Scheduling tools make all of this easy and simple.
Again it’s important to not overthink who you believe this next superstar emerging leader is on your team. She’s out there. And she wants to hear from you.
I think too often we receive the message that it should be someone who has shown they want to do the work. What if she simply needs to hear from you? What if she simply needs someone to connect and say…
“I know you can do this. I know you have what it takes. And I am here to show you the way.”
You may be thinking ‘I have told her that.” I believe you have.
But when was that? What’s happened in her business since then? What could it do for her to hear it again, or truly receive it this time? Because if you were saying it in a group setting, I guarantee she didn’t think your words were meant for her.
To recap those 3 strategies, one, make a phone call to her with a personal invitation to talk with you. Two, use a scheduler. And three, qualify your time together.
And now let’s cover the second reason you’re not hearing from your next superstar leader.
Reason #2 Your Next Direct Sales Leader is Not Engaging With You
The second reason is because she is tired of failing. She’s tired. She’s lost the belief she once had. She’s not having enough consecutive wins to feel like growth is still for her and that she can get another win let alone move up to the next level.
Maybe you’ve resolved yourself from working with these women. Maybe you believe she first needs to find the drive within herself for you to spend time with her. What if a conversation with you unlocked that for her?
Invite her to address the elephant in the room. Talk directly about it. Better yet, listen to her, let her do the talking. Don’t jump into what activity she’s going to focus on. She’s not there yet. First, let her clear the air and clear her conscience about what has her stuck.
Some simply need to hear from you that if they stare too long in the rearview mirror they miss what is lying right in front of them.
Once she feels the release of sharing by verbalizing how she’s stuck, acknowledge and validate her. Then ask her if she is open to welcoming success going forward.
And if her answer is yes, invite her to be the next emerging leader on your team. Tell her you know she has what it takes, that’s why you contacted her.
You may be thinking, I don’t have time to spend making one-to-one phone calls and meeting with women one-to-one. If you think you don’t, you don’t. Again, she believes you’re too busy for her.
I believe you can discern who you call. I believe you have systems and different opportunities for these emerging leaders to plug into once she hears from you and says ‘yes, I welcome success’.
You don’t have to hold her hand one-on-one until she reaches the top. She simply needs you to reach out today and invite her back in.
You’re not hearing from your next superstar emerging leader because she believes you are too busy or because she is tired of failing. These top two reasons are fixable.
Who Is Ready to Rank Up on Your Network Marketing Team?
Finally, let’s cover how to identify who you’re going to contact. Or an easier way to look at this is with fresh new eyes.
It is important to not prejudge who your next emerging leader is, especially based on her current level.
This could be someone close to the top that had one recent big setback, but by comparison, is still one of your top leaders. Don’t discredit the impact this contact could have on her future success.
This could also be someone who has been floating around the same lower-level rank since she started. She may not be anticipating a call from you because it’s been so long since you’ve communicated. Or maybe because you haven’t seen her with a fresh new set of eyes, her hovering at a lower level you’ve innocently discredited her potential.
Or maybe it’s someone you know is down on herself for taking steps back in her business and it’s simply been easier for you to not address it.
It’s important to not let a few criteria pre-determine who you’re next superstar leader will be. Look at her as a person first.
Consider with a fresh outlook why she has crazy big dreams for herself and her family. She’s waiting to hear from you. Go make that call. Because the best is yet to come, for both of you.
I would love to continue the conversation over on Instagram. Let’s connect @yourcrazybigdreams and I would love to follow you back.
