“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” A quote by William H McRaven. He is a retired U.S. Navy Seal and four-star admiral. For those not familiar with the Navy’s ranks, the more stars, the higher the rank, responsibilities, and demands. Just know he reached the top. He means business. And I would argue, he knows what he’s talking about.
His full quote is:
“If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another…?.?. And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made – that you made – and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”
The Power of Being as a Direct Sales Leader
I love this! It’s the perfect example of how one small task gives you complete influence over how you can feel at the start of your day, and how you feel about how your day unfolded. Being intentional and purposeful at the start of your day is incredibly powerful.
Today, episode 18 is dedicated to helping you determine how you want to be and feel as you start your day and as you end your day.
How Do You Want to BE as a High Achiever in Direct Sales?
It’s not about what you will specifically do to start and end your day, I cover the ‘what to do’ in other episodes. They are linked at the bottom of this episode’s transcript and throughout as referenced.
But today we set the foundation of how you want to benefit from being intentional and purposeful about how your day not only starts but also how your day ends.
The powerful benefit is you growing more into your best self, not only for your Direct Sales team but also for your family and most importantly, for you!
For the “how-to” on ending your day, well you’ll have to tune in next Tuesday for this next episode, or once live, go to episode 19 at crazybigdreams.biz/19.
Set the Tone for Your Day as a Direct Sales Leader
Again, today is about crafting the foundation for how you want to be and feel to set the tone for you and your day. Also how you want to be and feel to set the tone for the end of your day.
As a high achiever with your own Direct Sales business, you’re pulled in a lot of different directions. Of course, you enjoy the flexibility and freedoms that your business gives you. Yet, it’s not free of challenges. There are many demands and a variety of important demands on your time and attention.
From the work I do with all of my clients I know so many used to start their day with their phone. It’s difficult not to. Yet, when we do, we are subject to the rollercoaster of topics and headlines that can take our minds and emotions on a ride, maybe before we even put our feet on the ground.
This may or may not be how you currently start your days. Regardless, I’m here to invite you to take a fresh look at how you want to feel at the start and at the end of your days. You get to decide your state of mind and your emotions. Now is an ideal time to get more intentional and purposeful with this.
No matter how tough life is right now. No matter how many unknowns you’re navigating. Regardless of what tomorrow may or may not bring. Owning the start and end to your day is always within your influence. Always.
Owning the start of your day influences how you feel about the way your day unfolds. Owning the end of your day influences not only how you feel about life in general, but how you sleep and how you look at the next day ahead. You see how this has the opportunity for impacting your forward momentum day-to-day, week-to-week, and month-to-month?
Today I want you to craft the essence of how you want to feel and be as you start your days.
How Do You Want to Be and Feel at the End of Your Days as a Direct Sales Leader?
I then want you to design the energy around how you want to feel and be at the end of your days.
What do you need most right now to enhance how you carry yourself through your days? Peace? Contentment? Calm?
Maybe you’re needing Drive? Energy? Or Focus? These are just a few examples of what I hear from other high achievers in Direct Sales.
What Will Make the Biggest Positive Difference for Your Role as Direct Sales Leader?
It’s important for you to connect with and uncover what your one thing is. A helpful question to ask is “What’s missing? What’s missing in my days that would make the biggest positive difference in being my personal best?” Not only for my team, but also for my family, and most importantly for myself.
Maybe your answer comes quickly. You’ve been on the edge for some time and you’re primed and ready for that one thing you know, clearly, you’ve been missing.
And maybe you’ll need some quiet time to think on this. Maybe journal about it. For some, it’s helpful to talk it through with a mentor.
Keep in mind that it’s reflective of right now. It’s about what’s missing for you right now. We have different seasons of life and business. Simply evaluate, for now, what you need most and what’s missing in your days.
Once you’ve settled on what this is for you, in this season of life and business, capture it. Write it down. And click over to Instagram @yourcrazybigdreams. I would love to connect with you on what you most need right now.
Once you have it, now think about the end of your day. How do you want to feel and be at the end of your days?
Peaceful? Calm? Grateful?
Maybe you’re wanting to feel present. Are you wanting to feel organized?
Ok, if it’s all of these things, you’re not alone. Yet I promise there is one thing you need more than anything else right now. Again, for this current season of life and business.
You’re not held to this one thing forever. Don’t be hesitant to just choose one. As life and business change, so will your personal needs to feel and be your absolute best.
It’s just for now. Here’s how you flush this out. What’s one thing that will make the biggest positive difference for you?
What’s More Important for Your Direct Sales Leadership Growth?
Then pitch one word against another. “Is it more important to feel calm at the end of my days, or is it more beneficial for me to feel grateful?”
Pitch one word against another and see what comes up for you. Let’s say it’s gratitude, not calm. Then you’ll weigh gratitude against the next word, present. “Is it more important for me to feel grateful at the end of my days, or is it more impactful for me to feel present at the end of my days?”
You will know when you sit with these questions. It’s instinct. It’s a gut feeling. Trust it. Go with it. Don’t overthink it or question it.
Are you so tired, exhausted, and just done, by the end of your day that you don’t feel you have the capacity to design how you want your days to end? I get that! I’m an early-to-bed and early-to-rise kind of gal. With a business, a toddler, and a baby on the way, I’m just done, by like, noon. No, but by the end of the day, I am tired.
And yet what a special time of our life this is. To have the flexibility and freedoms that come with having my own business. To be growing our family. To be cherishing every day with my toddler; those last days where it will be just the two of us. Of course, I want to be intentional about how my days start, unfold and end. And I know you do too.
This is a special time in your life. No matter what’s happening now or what’s on your horizon, there is no one else like you that has your presence and positive influence on those around you. No one. I know you want to be your personal best for each of your people and for your days as well. How they start, unfold, and how they end.
The exhaustion and level of tiredness you may feel at the end of the day from giving and serving and wearing all the hats and doing all the things, are the very reasons why designing how your day ends, is critical.
Keep in mind, that the exhaustion and level of tiredness will shift for the better after you’ve declared your morning intention and purpose. It may be gradual or it may be immediate. Rest assured, it will set a different tone for your days.
Are you ready to start and end your days with exactly what you need and want? Being your personal best in life and in business is something you always have influence over. Influencing the start of your day, how you’re being as your day unfolds, and how you decide to be as your day ends is always within your influence.
Today was all about designing how you want to be and feel. Your next step is the how. Know that you can craft and design the start and end of your day to accomplish how you want to be and feel. The specific things you do to start your day, for example, putting your phone down and choosing something that better serves you, is how you’ll realize this being and feeling.
