When it Feels Like There’s Never Enough Time in the Day as a Direct Sales Leader
If how you work best is a good power hour, and you love to plan, set goals, schedule, make lists, and cross things off, this episode is to help you get more done with those tools in less time.
If your style is not like this at all, and you would simply rather be with people instead of your planner, I invite you to listen to episode 28 in addition to this episode, 29! Episode 28 is for those leaders who have a certain magic to their madness if you will in how they work best & what their leadership style is like.
But stay right here for episode 29 before you go back to 28. Why? Because you have people on your team that have a best way to work that’s opposite of yours.
You’ll relate better, and mentor them better, by taking a listen. They’ll also likely have even greater respect and gratitude for you after you share the tips I have for you here.
And if how you work best is a mix of both, being with people, and a few power hours here and there, then you’re in the right spot as well.
Let’s get to it.
When Your Biggest Challenge is Organizing Your Time Better as a Direct Sales Leader
All high-achieving leaders in Direct Sales that I talk with share the same struggle. They think their biggest strength should be to be more organized. Especially more organized with their time.
If this is you, even a little bit, my best strategy is to apply themes to your schedule. That’s right. Themes.
If you’re already doing power hours, good for you. These are focused, highly productive segments of time that glean significant results. Especially in income-producing activities. It’s a highly productive way to go about getting things done.
I always recommend working toward your own leadership style and how you work best.
Maybe that’s adopting power half hours or power quarter hours, where you’re spending 30 or even 15 minutes with a focused topic, list, and a specific outcome in mind for the allotted time. Super!
Applying Themes to Organize Your Time as a High Achiever in Direct Sales
Go ahead and apply themes to your power hour time, your schedule, and the time blocks you’ve dedicated to your business.
How would this look? I’ll take my week as an example. When I set time aside to work on this podcast, for example, I keep my theme for that day all about my podcast. Rather than spend an hour on my podcast, an hour with a client, or a half-hour on a discovery call with a new client, for example, I keep the day, or half the day, dedicated solely to my podcast.
My thoughts, energy, efforts, and focus are streamlined to a theme and to the same topic. I don’t have to waste focus switching gears or feeling pulled in different energy directions.
The benefit of this is number one, more organized with time. When you group time by topics or categories, your thoughts, energy, focus, actions, and decisions are channeled in the same direction.
For you, this may look like half of your dedicated business time on contacting team members and the other half on training or mentoring team members. Your focus for the day is team members.
The next day your business time may be dedicated to clients; existing, new, follow-ups, invitations, but the common denominator is clients.
The next day your business time may be dedicated to company-related topics. The meetings your company has offered for you and anything you need or your company needs to support one another.
You get the idea. Your team and your time are dedicated and focused on similar topics, activities, people, or results.
I’ve given you the framework to start with. Once you have an organized focus broken down to themes, you know there is a time and a space dedicated to each area you want to focus on. You can’t do everything all at once. But you can pick one theme to start with, know there is a future day or time period to dedicate to the other themes, and you’ll get to them.
In the meantime, drop me a note on Instagram @yourcrazybigdreams and share a theme you’ll start implementing to better organize your time. I can’t wait to connect.
The best is yet to come! Always.
