This is a crucial step I’ve discovered so many skip.
Understandably so. As High-Achieving women, it’s common to have ambition, to look ahead, to then press forward toward results and go after your crazy big dreams.
Which is why this episode is important. I’m asking you to pause, ask yourself these 3 powerful questions, and also discover your answers to them. This guided look back is something you’ll want to do before goal setting.
If you’ve already set goals, cover these questions before you revisit your goals again.
Typically, at the end or beginning of every month and quarter, most find themselves revisiting their goals. It’s helpful to guide plans and calendars and determine how to spend your time in pursuit of those goals.
Go ahead and cover these questions and answers before you revisit your already-established goals again.
Before You Set Goals Do This To Enhance The Results In Your Direct Sales Biz
And if you haven’t yet set new goals, and you’re embarking on goal setting, perfect! This guided look back is timely for you.
Why take a look back, you may be asking. The single most impactful reason is that our most significant growth lessons are learned when we’ve experienced the biggest challenges, heartaches, or obstacles and even the things we’re most proud of.
At the same time, we like to leave the tough times in the past. Why revisit them, right?! Let it be over and done with. Well, yes. I understand. But, if you haven’t fully discovered the lesson you were meant to learn from those tough times, there will be missed opportunities with your goal setting, for sure.
Let me just add, it’s not lost on me that significant life-changing challenges & heartaches may require a lifetime of learning what your lesson is from them. That’s ok. These questions can help. You simply may not know when the answers will come. And that’s ok too.
Three Questions To Help Before You Set Goals For Your Direct Sales Business
Here are 3 questions to help you take a look back.
One. What are you most proud of accomplishing in the last year? It doesn’t matter what time of year it is when you’re listening to this. Simply, in the past 12 months, what are you most proud of accomplishing with your business?
I urge you to really think back, maybe month-by-month, when you answer this question. What you’re most proud of may not be the most obvious event like a rank advancement, an earned trip, or your biggest month in sales ever. It may be.
But it could also be a tricky situation you navigated with grace. It could be a choice you made that seemed difficult at the time, or that you were questioning. Now that you’re reflecting, you see it was absolutely the right choice.
But really take a look back and reflect on everything you’re proud of. The thing you’re most proud of will surface.
Ok, so spend some time on this. When you’re ready, here is
Question Two:
Why?
This is the key question most of us don’t even ask ourselves. Why is this thing the one thing you’re most proud of? This answer is the lesson you were meant to learn from the one thing you’re most proud of accomplishing. This is key to take with you when you goal-set moving forward.
Finally, question three: What was the most difficult thing you navigated in your business or in your life in the last 12 months? And why?
Look, I know these questions aren’t easy to sit with. Yet they are important because they matter when it comes to your personal growth and business results.
What was the most difficult thing you experienced in the last year? Maybe it’s something you’re currently navigating. Ok. Remember you won’t always be here. It’s not a permanent situation.
Maybe it’s something that’s now a distant memory. One thing I know for sure is it doesn’t matter if we’re navigating something difficult in our personal life or in our business, it impacts both. We don’t live our lives compartmentalized. There is a residual impact that spills over into other areas.
Gain The Most From Your Direct Sales Personal Development Journey
If you want to move past surface goals this reflection and looking back is crucial and should become a regular practice. It’s not easy work. It is worth it.
Let’s review these three questions to answer. And you may need to sit with them, journal, and revisit them as you form your answers. That’s ok and totally normal.
One: What are you most proud of accomplishing in your business in the last 12 months?
Two: Why? Why is that what you’re most proud of?
Three: What was the most difficult thing you experienced in the last year in your life or your business?
As I mentioned, this isn’t easy work, but it is worth it. Use the answers to these questions to connect the dots on your growth and let it impact your results. We can learn so much about ourselves from looking back, to gain the most moving forward.
Don’t skim over your answers to these questions in this strategy of looking back. I promise, it can help you look at your goals differently and how you go about setting them. Your full potential, what you’re made of, what you have to do, to do what it takes to get after the goals you set to realize your crazy big dreams are the reward. It’s all connected.
