Hey leaders! Welcome to episode 73! I’m so glad you’re here!

Today we’re talking about leadership. We’re talking about you as a leader.

I base my entire VIP coaching experience, a high-touch, high-value experience on the belief that:

The leader you’ve been to get where you are is not the leader you need to become to get where you want to go.

I wholeheartedly believe this. I say it at the beginning of every podcast episode!

Not just because I’ve been in a variety of leadership positions myself, or because I have a degree in Organizational Leadership, or because I’ve worked for a variety of leaders in my past that, well, let’s just say were examples of how not to be an effective leader.

And I’ve also had some leaders that were shining examples of becoming the leader they needed to be.

But also because, as a leader of people, in the unique entrepreneurial role each of you is navigating, you simply have to continuously grow and develop as a leader.

There is a direct relationship between growth and development as a leader and the growth and development of your business. If you look back, you can see this. Right?

So why would we anticipate that future business success, like next-level success, would happen if we do not grow as people and as leaders?

Well, I’ll tell you. Most leaders have already exceeded results in their business that they ever thought was possible.

Most do think “Well of course, for the business to keep growing, leadership and personal growth would need to happen as well.”

Here is the key! The big, big difference is that most leaders believe that personal growth and leadership development come after the business grows or while the business is growing.

Is this you too? Ok, it makes sense. I know.

But I’m here to invite you to shift that thinking. At this point in your success journey; at this point in your growth and development as a leader, consider that your leadership growth needs to be addressed first, in order for your business to grow to the next level. In order for that stretch goal to come to life.

Because the leader you’ve been to get where you are is not the leader you need to be in order to get where you’re wanting to go.

Especially when you’re growing other leaders, and growing your business, and helping them grow their businesses, and helping them grow and develop their leaders. Whew! See what I mean?

There is more to learn. There is more growing to do.

And you’re saying, “…but Tammy, I’ve learned SO much and I’ve been on this personal development journey since day one. You have no idea how different I am and how much I’ve grown. I don’t recognize the person I used to be.

And I’m telling you, I know. I know you have. And I 100% believe you. You completely have learned all.the.things. And you’ve grown in ways you didn’t even know you would or could.

I know.

And there is still more to learn and more growing to do. Still. And I’m inviting you to open yourself up to working on your growth as a leader first in order to see those next-level results at this point.

At least, if you still have more you want to accomplish. Not simply more, but different things. If you’re simply not done yet.

There is opportunity ahead so far out of what you’ve known in the past.

There are accomplishments waiting for you just ahead but are all the way outside your comfort of experience.

The learning part (vs. personal growth) is easier to accept for many, I think. You are life-long learners. You have that itch to always want to learn more.

But specifically, we’re talking you’ll need to learn more about your skills as a leader. You’ll need to step into even more confident leadership skills.

This isn’t always about what to add to your leadership toolbox. It’s not necessarily about what to do. It’s easy to get caught up in do this, and do that, and implement this or that. After all, you’ve had great success. You know a little bit about what to do as a leader.

Sometimes, it’s about what to stop doing! For some, it’s about learning what’s holding you back as a leader. 

Let that soak in. Sometimes, it’s about learning what’s holding you back as a leader and what to stop doing.

What about personal growth? You’ve grown so much, how is it possible to be stretched even further? What’s left? You’re not even the same person you were when you started out.

Let me answer it this way. If it feels as though you may be at the end of your personal growth journey, your vision for the future of your business and what’s to come, may not be fully developed yet.

And that is completely normal!

It is a.o.k.

And it is also crucial to accept that the leader you’ve been to get where you are is not the leader you need to become to get where you want to go.

This is a lot to think about. I know. One of my clients said “I plan to re-listen to this episode several times” when we were deep into this discussion in her VIP experience.

It’s so so important for your future success and all those women you want to lift up and bring along with you.
