Welcome to episode 77! Today I’m giving you my key strategies to maximize results when you’re halfway to a goal! Your own goal, a goal your team has, or a goal anyone on your team may have. Any goal.
This halfway point is a milestone that is often overlooked. It holds significant opportunities for future results.
This milestone is an easy way to bring people together, celebrate, re-group, or even re-direct if needed.
My first question to you is does your team have a goal? Does your team know what you’re leading them toward? If not, you’re missing out on connecting with all the people that are driven by being a part of something bigger than themselves. Tune into episode 78 to hear all about maximizing the opportunities around team goals.
For now, let’s talk about the halfway point to goals. If you’re not already taking advantage of this milestone, you’re not alone. I’m here to give you the strategies and ideas to start.
All this is trusting that you have a measurable goal and you’re tracking it so that you know when you’re at the halfway point and what that looks like. If you don’t have a goal you can track you don’t know where you’re going or when you’ll accomplish it.
Five Strategies To Make The Most Of Your Direct Sales Business Goals
Strategy number one: Give this milestone of being halfway to a goal a name.
Whether you call it the halftime show, the halfway point, over the hump, or anything else that speaks to you, it helps to give it a name. You’re declaring this is important, you’ve made accomplishments, and there’s more to come.
Strategy number two: Celebrate!
Acknowledge the success and all of the accomplishments you’ve achieved at this halfway point, by celebrating. Any way that feels celebratory to you.
Start by making a list of all the measurable accomplishments. These are things you’ve been tracking. New business partners. Volume. Groups started. Anything you have been measuring.
If you’ve been measuring behaviors, this is the time to write these down as well. Take stock of all you’ve done.
Typically, most leaders will think of new ways that can be measuring activity or behaviors they haven’t been up to this point. Great! Start tracking as you work toward the second half in route to reaching your goal.
Listing what you’ve done so far is powerful because it helps you feel accomplished. It helps you see that you have what it takes because you’ve done it. You’re doing it. This strategy gives motivation and real examples that communicate you-can-see-this-through.
Once you have your list of accomplishments, celebrate. Any way that comes to mind. Do not skip over this part! Too often, especially as leaders, we don’t take the opportunity to celebrate our own accomplishments.
This has much more to do with staying the course and growing your business over time than it does in the immediate time frame as you celebrate this one halfway point. Don’t skip this strategy! Celebrate! And mean it.
What feels celebratory to you?
Strategy number 3: Reflect on what’s contributed to your accomplishments.
Take a look back over the weeks or months up to this halfway point and spend time truly looking at how you got here. You’ve already looked at and celebrated what you’ve accomplished so far.
Now it’s time to figure out how you got here. Truly. Make a list. These could be things that you’ve always done that have worked for you. Write them down. Don’t underestimate the importance of recognizing and knowing what works well for you and keep doing it.
In addition, take time to truly think about anything new that you’ve implemented that’s also working. Where have you made a shift or tried something new that you can see is contributing to your results?
Don’t forget about things that may be indirectly contributing to your results. Family support, kid support, help at home, a new exercise focus. These things are so important to recognize and know what is contributing to your success.
Strategy number 4: What didn’t you accomplish?
This isn’t an easy pill to swallow. It’s difficult to own that we didn’t do something we set out to. But this is where growth happens. This is where true lasting success is waiting.
Here you’re taking a look at the measurable activities that didn’t happen yet. What did you set out to do that you didn’t? List activities, behaviors, and objectives to your goal that didn’t get accomplished. Make a list.
Next, for each one, take time to truly think through what got in the way. There will be patterns here that emerge and they can absolutely be the keys to unlocking future successes. These can be instrumental in getting from the halfway point to the finish line.
Capture your takeaways and what you learn here, however, you work best. Voice record your thoughts. Make a list. Journal. It doesn’t matter how. Simply capture it.
Finally, strategy number 5: Re-direct.
Where do you need to make a change? I recommend only changing the finish line goal as a last resort. Don’t go there first. Even if it feels unattainable, or there’s simply no measurable way to achieve what you originally started out with, keep your original goal intact. Because you’ll get much further the more you’re stretched.
Let yourself be surprised.
Where can you change behavior, activity, mindset, choices, priorities, communication, commitments, and perspective?
Lots of opportunities right there in so many different areas.
The halfway point is a significant milestone. It’s rich with so much learning, celebrating, growth and re-committing.
Start taking advantage of all the possibility that comes with these strategies. Easy enough to implement. It takes being intentional. And pausing at this point, this halfway point.
And if you’re already recognizing this milestone on your journey to success as you get after your goals, I hope today’s strategies help you re-think how you’ve been approaching your halfway points to maximize your results.
