Hey high-achieving leaders. It’s Tammy Meyer. This is episode 95! I am so happy you’re here. Look, last week, in episode 94 we talked about the problem with all the personal development books out there.
The issue is, if we don’t yet know our higher self, we don’t know what our higher self would do, what she would think, how she would feel, what she would say.
You’re in the majority if you don’t yet know who your higher self is.
I would argue if you’re here, you’re on a path to determine just that.
These books are great reads. Don’t get me wrong. My bookshelf is stacked. I fear there’s never going to be enough time to read all the great books out there. Do you feel the same?!
I also talked about, in episode 94, about the opposite of our higher self,
Our lower self. This is when we have self-limiting beliefs. We might be feeling down and discouraged.
We have self-doubt. We’re critical of ourselves.
Maybe negative, even if just in our own thoughts.
Our ego gets in the way.
We’ve maybe become attached to the physical, the material things, and there’s maybe a strong hold on money or rank.
These are important. Don’t get me wrong. I’m simply pointing out that if you do want to know your higher self you’ll want to move beyond these.
You’ll need to identify what you need to let go of.
What is it for you?
Self-criticism. Self-limiting beliefs. Negativity?
By shifting your mindset you’ll become open to getting to know your higher self. You’ll be laying a solid foundation to work from to discover your higher self.
So what does that mean? What does that look like? Who is our higher self?
In my experience, most leaders kind-of, sort-of have an idea what “higher-self” is referring to and what they think it might mean.
If we’re going to continue on the personal development path it would benefit us greatly to know who our higher-self is and be able to connect.
First, it’s a journey to discover. It’s not an event.
Your higher self is best described as internal guidance, an inner knowing, a wisdom.
It’s when you’re connected with the inner you. Deep down, when you’re still and quiet. It’s your very personal best self.
When you’re connected to your higher self you not only benefit but anyone who crosses your path also benefits.
It’s transcending. It’s freedom. It’s like a free-floating indifference.
I think of this analogy. You know when you step outside and you don’t even notice the weather? It doesn’t feel hot or cold. You can’t feel humidity or the wind. It’s just air.
When I’m connected with my higher self it feels like a weightless experience. It’s about knowing the answers lie within me. The guidance I need is there. It’s about having the patience to wait for the answers to be revealed, and finally, it’s about trusting myself.
This is a process! And it works like a muscle. You have to condition it and exercise it. You have to practice.
You are always connected to your higher self. You always have access to your higher self. The question is are you giving yourself the opportunity to know and be familiar with your higher self?
To do this, it’s about being still, and letting go of thoughts. Watching your breath. Creating space. It’s the quiet.
You’ve maybe heard the saying “We’re human beings, not human doings.” So, when you’re not doing anything and you’re simply being, how much of your being is spent with your higher self?
It’s not lost on me, with two small kiddos, both boys, it’s almost never quiet! But I promise you, if this is important to you, you will find it. You will create the opportunities you need to find quiet, to be still, to let go of your thoughts, simply notice your breath, and connect.
Your higher self is always accessible. It’s about giving yourself the opportunity to know and be familiar with your higher self.
My hope and desire is that once you know your higher self, the next personal development book you read is a completely different experience. You’ll know exactly what the author is suggesting when asking “What would your higher self do, say, think, feel, or believe?” You’ll have practiced how to access your higher self and you’ll have answers to guide you.
